A dog is very similar to a television remote that needs to be programmed to work well with a TV. The animal and the device are fully capable of producing the desired results, but it needs someone to program it to work. Dogs are trainable, but it is up to us to teach them.
You can use a little bit of ingenuity if you are going with crate training for your indoor dog or puppy. Once in the crate, be sure to praise them to show that what they did was good.
When corrected your dog verbally, make sure to use sharp, sharp and to the point. Do not drag on in a rant to your pet about how bad they are. Just say no and show them what to do instead.

Discourage inappropriate behavior when you see it. You should say no to your pet No in a very firm voice. Do not scream or yell and/or hit your dog at all. Discourage incorrect behavior as soon as it happens. Dogs can’t remember much for a long time. If you wait long enough, they won’t understand what they did wrong.
