Training Methods That Work
There are a
number of different types of training methods available, such as
clicker, crate, reward, punishment, and training collars. None of these methods are perfect,
nor are they guaranteed to work on every dog
The most
effective method uses both Positive and Negative
reinforcement.
Positive
reinforcement is an outcome that the dog perceives as good or
beneficial. Positive reinforcement for a particular action results
in an increase in the frequency and intensity for that action.
Negative
reinforcement is any outcome that does not please the dog, including
no outcome at all. Negative reinforcement for a particular action
results in a decrease in the frequency and intensity for that
action.
There are
generally three different divisions of training,
Behavior,
Obedience, and Activity.
Behavior training
includes house training, acting properly around other people and
dogs,
and other basic rules such as not chewing up the furniture.
Obedience
training is teaching the dog to obey specific commands such as stay,
sit, come, and lying down.
Activity training
is
teaching the dog for specific activities such as hunting,
herding, search and rescue, and fetching.

hundreds of DVDs and videos available to show you precisely how to
